We welcome Sébastien Lapaque, winner of the Prix Renaudot Essai 2024, for his essay Echec et mat au paradis (Actes sud).
    Biography:
A free spirit with a gourmet and pyrotechnic erudition, Sébastien Lapaque is a unique voice in our literary landscape. An exceptional literary critic and reader, he regularly writes for Le Figaro littéraire and La Revue des deux mondes. His sharp yet friendly view of the world can be found in the two volumes of his ‘counter-journal’ published by Actes Sud: Au hasard et souvent (2010) and Autrement et encore (2013).
A novelist, he is the author of Barricades mystérieuses (Babel no. 59, 1998, 2012), Idées heureuses (1999), Identités remarquables (1999; Babel no. 1723) and La Convergences des alizées (2012; Babel no. 1195). In 2021, Ce monde est tellement beau earned him unanimous acclaim as the contemporary heir to Bernanos. It also won him the Prix Jean Freustié.
In the Actes Sud catalogue, his Théories are now like a pirate and accomplice collection, including Théorie de la carte postale (2014), Théorie de Rio de Janeiro (2014), Théorie d'Alger (2016) and Théorie de la bulle carrée (2019) on the champagne writer Anselme Sélosse.
An ecological conscience from the outset, an enlightened amateur and a passionate wine enthusiast, he is also one of the pioneers of literature on natural wine, on which he has imposed a non-conformist discourse combining agriculture, literature, the art of wine-making and the environment.
