This is a closed-door trial of a sixteen-year-old black teenager accused of stabbing his father. If they return a ‘guilty’ verdict, there will be nothing left to prevent the death penalty.
Everything points to the suspect: the neighbour across the street saw him, the old man downstairs heard him, a shopkeeper sold him the knife found in his father's body on the night of the murder. However, when the time came to vote on the final verdict, one juror did not raise his hand to find him guilty. His reason: ‘he's not sure’. Unanimity is required, so two hours of debate ensue, with everyone taking a position that keeps changing as arguments emerge, revelations are made and established facts fall apart.
