A mild climate, amazing light and ever-changing scenery make Pays Bigouden a great place to visit at any time of year. In Pays Bigouden, at the tip of Finistère, strong gales produce a unique effect at Saint-Guénolé harbour. You thought it never snowed in Brittany? Well here the ‘snow’ is salty ! In fact the quays are covered in foam !
If you are lucky, you will be able to photograph the moment for posterity.But please take care, the waves can quickly come up over the quayside...
A walk along the beach on the Bay of Audierne
Around 17.00, when the sun is starting to go down, is the best time to enjoy the last of the daylight on one of the beaches on the Bay of Audierne. The long stretches of sand at Plovan, Tréguennec and Tronoën are perfect places to relax, or even meditate so just close your eyes, take a deep breath and let yourself be transported by the salty tang of the Atlantic…
A shopping spree in Pont-l’Abbé
A half-day shopping trip to Pont l’Abbé is a great outing with family or friends. The town has a marvellous collection of small, well-stocked, independent shops where customers are sure of a warm welcome and helpful advice. Many different designer shops offer unique decorative objects with a seaside theme and the indoor market has a range of quality local foods. So take the opportunity to pick up a pretty scarf, a decorative object for the home or some local speciality foods and have a coffee break in one of the pedestrianized streets !
Don’t hesitate to visit the Office de Tourisme in the centre of Pont l’Abbé for a map and list of all the shops in the town to ensure a successful shopping expedition !

Afternoon tea on a chilly winter’s day is one of life’s little pleasures ! Admire the wonderful view from a table outside (wrap up warm !) or inside a cosy café on the harbourside at Sainte-Marine ! Savour the aroma of a gourmet hot chocolate or a fragrant tea and a piece of delicious gâteau Breton while watching the picture postcard scene of colourful boats bobbing up and down in the harbour. Cosy, hand-knitted alpaca woollies
In a timeless corner of Gourlizon a flock of thirty alpacas are affectionately well-cared for by their owners, Véronique and Yann. Visit the farm shop to discover alpaca wool, which is incredibly soft, very warm and hypoallergenic. There are balls of wool for knitting enthusiasts as well as a range of articles knitted by Véronique including fingerless gloves, snoods and hats to keep you warm during winter !
